When it comes to Search-Engine Optimization (SEO), Google is undoubtedly top of marketers' minds as it is the most popular search engine, owning 63.5% of the US market share in July 2018.
Although it may seem enough for a business to optimize their content on Google, the marketing potential of the second largest search engine - Bing - should not be ignored. Bing, which holds 24.1% of the US market share, is a great example of a website that works slightly different from Google but one that deserves attention as well.
Top 3 Reasons why Businesses Should Optimize for Bing
1) SEO for Bing = SEO for Yahoo!
Bing has an alliance with Yahoo - where they power the majority of Yahoo search. Hence, it means that when a business optimizes for Bing - they stand to get results from Bing and Yahoo - two search engines instead of just one!
2) Lesser Competition
Since so many websites focus on optimizing only on Google, a business can put themselves ahead of the competition by positioning themselves in front of searchers who uses Bing and Yahoo. It is easier to get a higher spot on Bing search results compared to Google, where competition is sky high. Due to lower competition on Bing, it will take lesser time for ranking results to be seen as well.
3) More Social Signals for Your Content
When users search on Bing, they can instantly see if their Facebook friend or Twitter follower has recommended or rated the mentioned company or product. Related Pinterest boards can also be found when searching for images, an edge over Google as they haven't yet been able to integrate social media into their search results quite as well as Bing.
Ultimately, even though Google serves a majority of Internet users, there is intense competition where improving search rankings can be a struggle. Hence, businesses should consider optimizing for Bing on top of Google, to improve their overall search engine visibility.
